In his Metal Sludge diary piece for November, Atomic Punks lead singer Ralph Saenz talked about running into Eddie Van Halen at a Staples office supply store recently. He introduced himself to the "King of 10 fingers and six strings," and described the surreal feeling as the two talked for a few minutes.
Great little story, but Ralph, next time, get up the nerve to ask Ed to jam. I think you've earned it.
Follow the link below to to read Ralph's diary with the chance meeting. It's mentioned under "Atomic Punks stuff."

Interesting tidbits:
"he said, "oh yea I've seen the video, not bad"..
Hmmmm...wonder who showed him a video?
"I was thinking that this would be a great time for me to ask if he wanted to get together and write some songs cause I know they are looking for a singer, but I chickened out."
Ralph...WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!?!?!? I know, probably the same thing we'd all be thinking had we run into Ed someplace where we'd least expect to see him: (insert Ralph Kramden voice here) "Uh...., homina homina homina.....!"
"He came out right after and asked me, "Is that all you do, you know play in the tribute thing?"
Anyone reading this is gonna misconstrue it as Eddie subliminally asking you if you want a job. And, that's kinda what it reads like, though I'm sure he's just interested in anything else you're involved in. If Ed calls, Ralph, take it!
"I turned around and walk right up to Ed and I said, "I'm not cutting my hair and playing some shitty music I want to Rock for real" and Ed said, "So do I !"
Well, Ed, what's taking so long?!?
"Fuck I feel like I missed a great chance to actually sing the band that I am a tribute to."
At the risk of sounding crass, yes, it was.
"Oh well at least we know now that Eddie still wants to rock.."
Yes, that's true. And, we know that The Punks still want to rock and perform a service that Ed, Al, and Mike can't do. Thank you, Ralph! Great story, you lucky SOB!
Oh yeah, my celebrity meeting story: met and spoke with Duff McKagen last night backstage at a No Doubt gig. Way cool guy!

HA HA! This is from Metal Sludge's latest piece, "What Rockstars are Thankful For."
"David Lee Roth is thankful that Ralph Saenz chickened out on asking Eddie Van Halen to jam together."
"Sammy Hagar is thankful that Ralph Saenz chickened out on asking Eddie Van Halen to jam together."

I thought Ralph handled the situation pretty well. At least he made it clear that he is not ever going to be Eddie's BITCH!!! I'm sure if the old men did hire Ralph or even jam with him, Ralph would be stealing the spotlight.
