Think about it....this is a deeeeeeeeeeeep philosophical question. I know that Sammy inherently sucks - I know this with all my heart. BUT, what if Ralph, with all his charisma and talent and genius, were up onstage every night doing Sammy Hagar? What then, my friend? Maybe through Ralph I could better understand the Sammy Hagar thing. Ralph could, in a way, open my eyes to the possibilities and potential of a while new world.
Ralph is God.
Ralph, if youre out there and you need anything (weed, women, $) let me know. I will either obtain these things for you or die trying.

Actually I have thought about the possibility of the Atomic Punks playing some of Sammy's hits. I like a lot of songs off the OU812 album. Sorry to admit it, but I do. And, I think Ralph would really do an awesome job at covering some of them. That being said, please don't send me hate mail. [ February 21, 2003, 12:21 PM: Message edited by: APsRule ]

Hey there Luvtohumpralph!
Gotta love your name!! LOL! Good humor...and, a lot of truth to it as well. I absolutely adore Ralph too. And, yes, he could just lay down his hatred for Sammy for a spell and rip off some great tunes from back in the day when Sammy was with VH. I know for a fact he could do them well. C'mon, Ralph, can you hear us???? Pretty please?????

In no way have I ever heard of Ralph having "hatred" for Sammy at all. Ralph has spoken about seeing VH with Sammy a few times, and is complimentary of Sammy's history with the band (Sam just took VH down a different musical avenue, that is all)
In fact, Ralph and the Atomic Punks have performed, several times, a Van Hagar song ("Why can't this be love?") but in the style of David Lee Roth
Ralph did it in Dave's style, because after all, they are a "tribute to early Van Halen", which he calls the best version of Van Halen there ever was, and many would agree
Also, his audience are people who love early Van Halen, so when he addresses fans of the other versions of Van Halen (Sammy and Gary) of course he has to say "if you came here expecting to hear Van Hagar, or Gary Cherone... F.U." because that is not what the Atomic Punks are about.
Actully it is some really hardcore fans, like me, who you could say have some kind of "hatred" for Sammy (for constantly putting down Dave since day 1 when he joined VH, even when they had never met), and Gary (for putting out a Van Halen album that left a very bad taste with the few remaining Van Halen fans)
If Ralph's band started doing all Hagar and Cherone cover songs, even with Ralph's charasma and talent, sadly I'd have to find another tribute band to enjoy [ February 23, 2003, 11:16 PM: Message edited by: AlbertR ]

Kinda hard to "hate" Gary Cherone, he was pretty much following Ed's marching orders, he had ZERO input on that album. He was smart enough to get out too.

About the Punks doing Sammy Hagar.,., I thought it more and agree with AlbertR. We are there to see a tribute band for Van Halen. I don't think I would like it any other way!!!

Actually, not his ENTIRE audience loves strictly early Van Halen, some of us (like myself) love ALL Van Halen and were just putting in a request for some Sammy. Not trying to convert the entire band's format to Sammy's version of Van Halen.
And, as far as stating that Ralph has some hatred towards Sammy, well, is it any wonder one would get that impression when he states, "if you came here expecting to hear Van Hagar, or Gary Cherone... F.U.". LOL! Okay? What are we supposed to assume? That he adores Sammy??
All I was saying was that Ralph is extremely talented and could pull off Sammy's VH easily, if he wanted, and he may even broaden his fan base by doing so. That's it, I didn't want to start a war with the die hard early VH fans. I love all VH and so to each his own. We can agree to disagree, can't we? Just firing the fans up for the show, that's all. He knows a lot of people at the show aren't there to hear "Love Walks In."
You're not alone BTW, I have no problem with Sam in VH, as long as Eddie is standing next to him. It's always been about the "King of 10 Fingers and 6 Strings" for me.

Yeah, Brett, it's always been Eddie and his unbelievable talent for me as well, good point. That has got to be why I've enjoyed all the versions of Van Halen throughout the years. Thanks for pointing that out. It it weren't for Eddie and his amazing fingers I know I would have ended my love affair with VH long ago....

Thanks, Sweetie!
I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I only see the Punks once a month as well. It totally blows but I'm very lucky, I could live on the East Coast and never see them. The Punks come here often enough, as long as they don't change their schedule and quit coming here. That's my biggest fear! They totally ROCK!!

Well, maybe I am focusing a lot on the word "expecting."
I have seen my fair share of Atomic Punks shows and because the more recent versions of VH were with Sammy and Gary, there might be audience members, especially the younger ones, who might show up to the Atomic Punks and they expect to hear the most "recent" VH songs that is played on "oldies" stations that play music from the late 80's and the 90's
Well, the Atomic Punks are a tribute to early Van Halen, so if you went to their show expecting to hear songs by Sammy or Gary... well, in the words of Judas Priest, "you've got another thing coming"
or... in other words.... F. U.
Hey, if you go to tribute to Missing Persons, you don't expect them to bust out songs by Duran Duran, even though the bands shared the same guitarist, right?
Each VH era was quite different, and to each their own
If there was a VH tribute called "Why can't this be good" you would expect them to only play Hagar VH songs, right? And if I showed up one night to this band expecting to hear Dave VH songs, well then the Sammy style singer might have to explain "we don't think we're Van Hagar, we just play tribute to the sappiest version of Van Halen there ever was... and if you came here expecting to hear anything that would rock your nuts off, well... F. U. "
Eddie is legendary guitar talent, no doubt about it, but the stuff he did with Sammy or Gary didn't move me... or make me want to get those recordings. Partly because of the singer's personalities, but mostly because of the music in its entirety (a guitarist doesn't make a band great all by himself, IMHO).
I really don't think Ralph or the band hate Sammy (or Gary), and Ralph has even said to me "come on Albert, you don't really think Sammy was that bad, was he?"... and you can probably guess my answer

"Right Now" absolutely moved me. It was so completely different from Dave era VH, but it totally rocked. Great song, great video, great message.
Sammy's alright with me! Anyone who make his own tequila and brings a party wherever he goes, can't be all bad!

Yeah, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony, should have fucking just quit and forgot about writing music all together. After Dave left they were nothing. Wow, I just noticed more than half of those guys last names are Van Halen, coincidence?
It's too bad Albert, if you ever listened to those album, and I assume you haven't since you didn't buy them, you would know that there are MANY songs that fucking rocked! If you only listen to what the radio stations put out there, then I can understand why you think Van Halen was sappy after Dave left for browner pastures. Good music is good music, there's no gray area.
Oh! I gotta find that pic of ya Albert. The one where you're wearing a Van Hagar tour shirt. Just kidding dude.
