I don't know how many of you went, but I was at the 14 Below show and it, well, it was interesting. We arrived there and it was VERY crowded - been there before and it was crowded, but not like this. I think they're simply going to have to STOP playing these "miniature" venues!!! I spent my first AP show, NOT in the front!!! Anyway, about half way into the show, the fire marshall came and shut it down. Everybody had to leave the venue and then we were "counted" back in. I think it turned out to be a good thing because so many people left that I think they were "under" capacity at that point.
Also, my "two cents" are that it was way uncool that people started booing the fire marshall and saying a bunch of obscenities and stuff....he was only doing his job. Believe me, that place was NOT safe!!! That was the first thing I thought of when I arrived. (btw, I was told that they have a 120 person capacity and there were AT LEAST 250 in the club!!!)
Interesting tidbit is that I think somebody called them because the fire marshall told me that he was asleep when he got the phone call. And then he said he felt bad because the band sounded like they were great - I said "they are, you should check them out some time.... theatomicpunks.com is where you can find their calendar" :-)

I was totally bummed about the 14 Below show. I've been to see the Punks there a couple times and I've never showed up before 11. I brought my entire birthday party with me to 14 Below and we couldn't get in at 10:15!! Huge bummer.

That is a bummmer, Heather...we got there about 11:30 and were able to get in. Then again there was only two of us - but you didn't miss too much because as you can see by my earlier post, it was FAR TOO crowded anyway - plus lost out on about a half our of the guys playing.
Sorry for your sitch - hope it didn't put too much of a damper on your b-day night.
Happy belated B-day, btw.

I was at the 14 Below show also. It was crowded, but that's typical for a Punks show. I wonder if the fire marshall took into consideration the other 2 rooms connected to the main room. Does the 120 capacity include those rooms also? I am sure there was plenty of space in those rooms.
So what now? Will 14 Below have to assign someone to continually count ins and outs from the main room to make sure it doesn't go over capacity? (Imagine a lot of angry people who would have to wait their turn.) Or will the Punks be limited to playing larger venues such as House of Blues, whose calendar is alway full (meaning less gigs for the Punks in the area). It may mean we will have to buy our tix in advance (hoping the club doesn't over sell), or or take our chances at the smaller venues (not worth it).
Word of caution: Kozmos has a capacity of 150 if I am not mistaken. Great venue, though.

14 Below is tiny, tiny, tiny. Really sucks there was a problem, but better to be safe than sorry. The club should know their capacity and not break the law, simple as that.
And this is the good thing...the Punks are too damn big and too damn good to play these small venues anymore.

I was at the 14 Below show on Saturday. AP rocked!! After the fiasco with the fire marshall, the resumed show was awesome. It seemed to me that the REAL fans stuck around despite what many of the cops were saying about the bar being totally closed for the night. I think the band recognized this and was super cool when they came back - playing requests and handing out 8x10s afterward.
I specially liked being treated to Drop Dead Legs - according to Rob they hadn't played it before at a live gig. It's got my vote.
Russ' Eruption shred was razor sharp. I remember him saying to some of the audience, "come on, some people don't want to hear that...what the heck, I'll do it real quick". Then with the confidence and presence he always has when he's on stage, he rips it out. Yeah!
Hot For Teacher was a perfect finale. Class Dismissed!

We just went around back to the restaurant after the fire marshall kicked everyone out (it was still open), ordered a beer, and waited till they opened the main room again. And, of course, the Punks continued to kick ass!

I went to the House of Blues show and that place was sold out and there were no problems. I had a great time! Although, now that I think about it, the place probably was over- sold and had there been an emergency it probably would not have been easy to get out of there.
It always surprises me how greedy people can be, even at the expense of other people’s safety. You would think club owners would be more cautious about crowds now after the whole Rhode Island tragedy, but I guess the almighty dollar is more of a temptation than some people can resist.
People should have been booing the club owners, not the fire marshals. The owners were the ones who didn’t play by the rules and almost ruined it for everyone.
If everyone can’t get in, oh well, get there earlier next time. It will probably make the venue or the Atomic Punks more popular if people are being turned away because the place is sold out.

I totally agree with this. Punks shows would be the hottest ticket in town. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw scalpers at the Anaheim HOB show w/Michael Anthony. Imagine if this happened all the time... crazy!
This would mean a little extra work on the regulars' part to make sure WE got tix, but wouldn't it be great if it meant higher paychecks for the guys?

Speaking of paychecks...(re: my earlier "on the road" post) if you guys need a driver to the shows, wardrobe consultant, personal assistant to the band, etc. I'm available for hire. The cost of living up here is sending me to the poor house.
