Hi everyone,

Have a few questions to ask and I hope there are people who can educate me a little.

1. When will there be new Audio and Video tracks of the Punks available on the site?

2. Will the Punks release anything such as the entire VH album, VH2 album, Women and Children fairwarning or 1984? Either by the website or record a CD (Live or studio) The question was raised once before as why they do not record a CD or DVD. I know that Royalties and permission needs to be granted to perform, record and distribute VH music. How come it can be released on a website but not on a CD? I assume it is because a CD would be sold? Just want to understand the music BIZ better.

Thanks!

HM

1. I actually just got some new audio, I'll have to let the boys hear it and see what they think. Not sure when we'll have new video right now.

2. A CD/DVD is normally sold for money, hence royalties must be paid for cover songs. You don't need VH's permission per se, but you must pay to use the copyrighted works. And yes, technically if VH wanted to, they could stop the Punks from having audio and video of VH music on here. Same with the other tribute bands out there, for any band, not just VH. It's no different then when a band plays a club, the club is expected to pay royalties to ASCAP or BMI for performances that include cover music. The thing the Punks have going for them is that Michael Anthony has played with them and it's pretty obvious by that, that Van Halen has no problems with what the Punks are doing for Van Halen fans.

That help at all?

Remember, if you are on the WinMX file sharing network, I have about 100 tracks from various AP shows all the way back to when Brian was on guitar. Just search "Atomic Punks". Shows from Hawaii, Seattle, Arizona, The Whiskey, etc....
Good Luck

Thank you both for replying. Since you have answered my questions, what then is stopping AP from making a CD or DVD? Royalties are not expensive. The most you would pay is 7 cents a song. Therefore, if you have good live recordings, a 10 song CD would only be 70 cents per cd sold.

But maybe it's a catch 22.. VH indirectly have given the permission for AP to perform the songs and for free download off the site. Maybe they would be upset if you made a CD/DVD. However, if you are paying royalties, (.70 per CD sold) how could they be upset? Joe, you got to admit that if the Punks sold CD's, they would move like hot cakes!

I guess I am pushing the question because I enjoy hearing the Punks play VH. In addition, who knows how long the punks will be togther and being a huge fan, it would be nice to be able to collect all that I can get my hands on for my own personal musical enjoyment. (Such as collecting each song and creating the VH album collection done by the punks) Granted, I have all of the VH collection and know every guitar lick, bass, and drums. However, it is a nice and fresh to hear AP do the songs so well... it's a different persepective.

Joe-

I have WinMX but I am usually not on until 10 PM or so searching. By then, you are gigging. I would love to be able to collect all the songs the Punks do for each VH Album. That would be so great. I already have created my own CD based on the audio on the site.. I take it whenever I go to a party, or when I am traveling out of state.
I love to show you off to people and watch them fall to the ground in amazement.

Can't wait to see you guys again. I gotta make a trip to LA instead of flying to Sacramento and going to the AZ shows.

With a handle like "Heavy Music" you are probably not going to be interested in this, but the Atomic Punks have recorded a CD of Van Halen covers.

It is called "Eruption" and can be purchased at vanhalenstore.com (click on the Tribute CD section).

Now the kicker is that this was recorded in the Bart days, and all the songs are disco style. There is even a cover a Beat It.

The band did not put out this CD themselves, somebody paid them to do it.

Just tossing out an option...

Thanks Albert.

I do appreciate a listen to all different styles of music. Music is my passion from Miles Davis to Pantera, to Bluegrass to James Brown. However, it's VH who is my ultimate favorite all time band. Not to go into my story, but thank you for throwing it up there.

We all know that if AP actually did make CD's, they would move quickly and better than the T-Shirt sales.

Like I said, I am being greedy and would like to collect every cover that the Punks do to create the enite VH David Lee Roth collection. You know what I mean?

Thanks again,

Well, the CDs might sell okay because it would be a new item.

I think almost everybody who would buy an Atomic Punks shirt, has already bought them. So until they change the shirt design (like longs sleeves, maybe with artwork on the sleeves, those look cool [Big Grin] )

BTW, a few years ago the Atomic Punks recorded 4 unreleased Van Halen songs. Unfortunately it seems they ran into issues with releasing a CD of of those rare covers. [Frown]

Albert's right...

Technically...clubs must pay everytime a band plays their song...but of course, most artists don't care, because by the band (any band) playing their song, it only increases their chance of someone buying the record...or just keeping the band in someone's mind.

Also...most bands don't care when another band covers their song...because, if it happens to get radio airplay all over again.....that's where the REAL $$$ is.
