Last October I took my 13 year old sister Jools to catch the Punks' show at the Whisky. Not only was she excited to be there (now I"m the coolest big sister ever, and she's quite envied at school because, well, "My sister took me to a rock show at the Whisky"), but the guys were incredibly gracious and took the time to talk to her. Russ even had a picture taken with her and signed a Satchel photo I'd taken a while ago. Anyway, the show blew her away, and as we were leaving, she asked, "So when are we coming back?" My reply: "As long as your grades stay where they are." (She's a straight-A student).
Anyway, yesterday morning a friend of hers and his Mum picked her up to go to a screening of "Fat Albert", and before leaving, she introduced me to them. On the way there, somehow she struck a conversation with the lady about music. She was complaining about the music her son listens to, and the following exchange ensued:
Jools: "So, what music do you listen to?"
The Mum: "Oh, well, you know, everything... rock, mostly."
Jools: "What kind of rock? Like classic Van Halen?"
The Mum: "Oh, girl, you know that's my music! I love Van Halen!"
Jools: "Oh, cool, 'cause you know, my sister, the one you just met? She goes to see this band that play Van Halen songs just like in the albums, and so if you want, next time they're having a show at the Whisky, you can come with us and bring him along as well, 'cause it's all ages and they're really, really awesome..."
So there you have it, folks. 13 years old, and already promoting rock, classic Van Halen, and the Punks. My job is done.

P.S.: I'm 100% sure if the lady had said she'd liked modern rock, Jools would have started to promote The Thornbirds. [ December 19, 2004, 08:06 AM: Message edited by: Tracy ]

Great story.
Jeff Martin (Racer X, Badlands) and I took our kids to see the Punks in Reno. Ralph pulled them up on stage...they had a great time.
They're 10 years old and they STILL talk about it. My son listened to VH1 and asked it if was Russ...so, he has little more education to go...but he's on track!
