The tour made its stop last night here in San Diego. It was pretty cool seeing all these bands from my youth again, all rolled into one package. The best part was seeing it for free. I worked it, and it was my first working gig in about 3 months.
Slaughter was the opener and did a good job. I noticed Blas Elias wasn't their drummer. What happened? Mark did a really cool, and totally unexpected, thing by jumping into the crowd (which scared the shit out of me since I was working in the barricade) and walked throughout most of the amphitheater slapping hands, grabbing hugs, and taking pics with the fans while singing "Mad About You". Then again, from what I remember, this band has pretty much always been about their fans. Then, right before "Fly To The Angels", he dedicated it to the "149 troops who never made it home and gave their lives so that we can have the freedom to rock out like we're doing right now". From a military member's point of view, that was really cool.
Kip Winger came out and did a solo acoustic 30 minute set. No fanfare, no nothin'. Just came out, started the show (I actually thought he was a tech testing out the equipment!), and was pretty well-received by everyone. He played an opening song which I recognized as a solo tune, since I've never heard it before, and it was an obviously painful tune. Sounded like the song was about losing his wife in the auto accident that took her life some years ago.
Warrant took the stage next. Man...Jani Lane has *really* put on the pounds. I didn't recognize anyone from the band, with the exception of him. His voice, as is Kip Winger's, is still in fine form. The setlist was comprised of tunes from "DRFSR" and "Cherry Pie". Surprisingly, they got the bigger response of the night between them, Slaughter, and Kip. Until Whitesnake took the stage, that is.
Whitesnake came out and rocked. But, the down side was that they played the same exact setlist they did when they were here earlier this year in February. But still, they didn't disappoint. They rocked everyone's collective asses off.
Good show by all bands.
Special "HI" to Jen, Jeff and Albert! Jen and a friend of hers were 2nd or 3rd row center, and seeing them there was a special surprise. Jen grabbed her a spot on the rail and didn't let go all night. Too bad she missed Mark's venture into the crowd!
Maybe I'll *finally* make it to a Metal Shop gig in a few weeks. I know, Jen, I know. If you can make it in from Eastlake, and Albert & Jeff can make it in from the L.A. area, I can make it in from Tierrasanta. We'll see what happens on August 6.

I read on MetalSludge that he is in the Blue Man Group. Who knows if that is true or not.

Special "Hi" and THANKS to Vince for taking such good care of us ladies on the barricade. Sometimes it gets a little rough up there but Vince made sure that no one invaded our personal space. Thanks man!
I was also pleasantly surprised to see you and your wife working that show. What a sweet deal for you guys! You absolutely MUST come to a Metal Shop show so we can protect YOUR personal space. The Metal Shop crowd at Typhoon Saloon can get worse than a Brazilian soccer game at times!
Hope to see you there real soon!
BTW, I had a blast at the show! I can't believe how good they all still sound! Especially Kip and Coverdale. I was very impressed and can't wait for Sunday's show in LA at Universal.
The real treat was going to Metal Shop afterward and hearing them sing about 5 songs from the show that night.
Good times and a geat birthday!

We'll (hopefully) be there in a few weeks, schedules permitting.
And, always happy to help out my Lady friends. Not a problem. That drunk moron standing behind you dancing didn't get too curious with his hands, did he? A few times I saw very puzzled looks on your face.
Loni and I work the same job, but since becoming part of the security department on base I've pretty much stopped working the concert thing. Only very occasional gigs.
She'll be at the Iron Maiden show, though. You?

Only a couple times, hence the puzzled look. I just grabbed another drunk girl and placed her in between me and the drunk guy. She didn't seem to mind that (a) he was grabbing her or (b) that she got bumped up a row. Everyone's happy!

I don't think so, but hopefully I'll be seeing you guys at a Punks show real soon.
Keep on rockin!

Looks like we'll finally be at the Metal Shop gig this Wednesday (8/13). I'm on vacation and since I have the time off, I figured, "Why not go?"
As long as our babysitter doesn't crap out on us, we should be there!
